Why patients choose us

The Advanced difference.

Many techniques, one plan
We don't have one tool. Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson, Activator, Arthrostim — the technique fits you, not the other way around. Dr. Sorensen picks the right approach for your spine on the day.
Decompression & shockwave
Non-surgical solutions for disc compression, nerve pain, and stubborn soft-tissue problems. Spinal decompression and radial shockwave therapy are available in the same appointment as your adjustment.
Massage therapy on site
Coordinated soft-tissue work in the same building, the same visit. Muscle preparation before an adjustment and myofascial release after it makes a measurable difference in how long the adjustment holds.
Honest answers, always
28 years means Dr. Sorensen knows when chiropractic is the right tool — and when it is not. Second opinions, MD and attorney referrals, and clear explanations before we proceed. No high-pressure plans.
What brings people in

Conditions we treat every week.

Most people who walk through our door aren't chiropractic regulars. They're desk workers who woke up stiff, parents who lifted their child wrong, athletes mid-season, and Yuba City commuters who were rear-ended on Highway 20 last week.

No. 01

Lower back pain

From sit-all-day stiffness to acute disc flare-ups. Most patients feel meaningful change inside two to four visits.

No. 02

Neck pain & stiffness

Forward-head posture, sleeping on a bad pillow, or post-MVA whiplash. Often paired with shoulder tension and headaches.

No. 03

Headaches & migraine

Cervicogenic headaches respond particularly well to upper-cervical work and soft-tissue release of the suboccipitals.

No. 04

Sciatica & disc pain

Radiating leg pain, numbness, or tingling. We often pair adjustments with spinal decompression for disc-related cases.

No. 05

Sports injuries

Powerlifters, runners, weekend cyclists, high-school athletes. Dr. Austin is the lift nerd you want in your corner.

No. 06

Auto-accident recovery

We document thoroughly, communicate with your attorney or adjuster, and design a recovery plan that does not drag on.

No. 07

Pregnancy & postpartum

Gentle techniques and supported positioning for low back, hip, and pelvic discomfort through every trimester.

No. 08

Children & teens

Light, careful, age-appropriate work for growth-related complaints, sports stress, and sleep posture issues.

No. 09

Shoulder pain

Rotator cuff irritation, frozen shoulder, and upper-thoracic involvement — common in desk workers and overhead athletes alike.

No. 10

Wrist & carpal tunnel

Repetitive strain and nerve entrapment in the wrist and forearm. Often linked to upper-cervical nerve root compression we can address at the source.

No. 11

Hip & knee pain

Sacroiliac joint dysfunction, IT band tightness, and hip imbalances that get blamed on the knee when the problem starts higher up.

No. 12

Plantar fasciitis & foot pain

Radial pressure wave and soft-tissue work for stubborn heel pain. Often resolves cases that have not responded to rest alone.

Treatment approach

The right technique.
Not the only technique.

Every patient gets a real exam and a clear explanation before anything is done. The tools below aren't a menu you pick from — they're the kit Dr. Sorensen selects from once he understands what's actually going on.

Tool · 01

Diversified & Gonstead

The two most clinically validated manual techniques in chiropractic. Precise, specific adjustments for targeted joint restoration. The foundation of Dr. Sorensen's structural work.

Tool · 02

Thompson Drop & Activator

Drop-table technique for low-force segmental correction, and Activator Methods for patients who prefer instrument-assisted, non-manual adjusting. Gentler — equally effective for many conditions.

Tool · 03

Arthrostim & Neuro-mechanical Impulse

High-speed, low-force instrument adjusting that delivers precise impulses to specific segments. Excellent for acute pain, post-surgical cases, and patients who cannot tolerate manual manipulation.

Tool · 04

Spinal decompression

Motorized, computer-controlled traction that takes pressure off compressed lumbar and cervical discs. Comfortable fifteen-to-twenty-minute sessions — commonly paired with adjustments for disc-related leg or arm pain.

Tool · 05

Shockwave therapy

Radial shockwave — acoustic pulses directed at chronic soft-tissue problems: plantar fasciitis, calcific tendinopathy, tennis elbow, trigger points. Stimulates the body's own repair response in tissue that has stopped healing.

Tool · 06

Massage therapy

On-site licensed massage coordinated with your chiropractic visit. Soft-tissue preparation before adjusting and myofascial release afterward — the combination that makes adjustments hold longer.

Tool · 07

Corrective exercise & rehab

Specific, simple exercises tailored to your problem. Dr. Sorensen would rather teach you four moves you will actually do than prescribe fourteen you won't. The goal is independence, not dependency.

"The best adjustment is the one that gets you to a point where you don't need me anymore."

First visit

What to expect on your first appointment.

No mystery, no "let's just see how it goes." Here is exactly what happens, in order, from the moment you walk in.

  1. 1

    Paperwork (15 minutes)

Download the new-patient intake ahead of time or fill it in the waiting room. Bring your insurance card and a photo ID. If it's a workers' comp or auto claim, bring your claim number too.

  2. 2

    Conversation (20 minutes)

Dr. Sorensen sits with you first. He wants to know what hurts, when it started, what you've already tried, and what you actually need to get back to doing. He listens before he examines.

  3. 3

    Exam & assessment

Orthopedic, neurologic, and range-of-motion testing. If imaging is warranted, we'll refer you for X-rays. If it's not necessary, we'll tell you that honestly.

  4. 4

    Clear plan

You leave knowing what the problem is, what the plan is, and roughly how long it will take. No fourteen-page care packages, no high-pressure upgrades.

  5. 5

    Same-day treatment

Most new patients receive their first adjustment on the same visit. If today is not the right time, that's fine — we'll schedule, no charge for the exam alone.

From our patients

Yuba City patients — in their own words.

A trusted Yuba City practice with patient relationships spanning years. The quotes below are representative of the feedback Dr. Sorensen receives from his community.

"

Dr. Sorensen is the only chiropractor I trust. I have been coming here for years — he always explains exactly what he's doing and why, and I always leave feeling better than when I walked in.

Karen M. · Long-term patient, Yuba City
"

I had severe sciatica for months and nothing was helping. After a few sessions with Dr. Sorensen — combining adjustments with decompression — the radiating pain finally started to ease. I wish I had come sooner.

Robert T. · Sciatica & disc pain
"

He took the time to actually explain what was wrong with my spine on the X-ray and why each step of the treatment mattered. No mystery, no pressure — just a clear plan and real results.

Sandra L. · Neck pain & headaches
"

I was in a car accident and my attorney recommended Dr. Sorensen. He documented everything carefully, communicated with my adjuster, and got me back to full function. Genuinely grateful.

Marcus D. · Auto-accident recovery
Common questions

What new patients usually ask first.

If the question on your mind is not here, just call us — we would rather answer it now than have you guess.

How long until I feel better?

Most new patients notice a meaningful change within two to four visits. Chronic, long-standing problems take longer — Dr. Sorensen will give you an honest timeline after your first exam, not a generic 24-visit package.

What's the difference between all those adjustment techniques?

Each technique applies force differently — in direction, speed, and amplitude. Diversified and Gonstead are high-velocity manual adjustments for clear mechanical problems. Activator and Arthrostim use an instrument for gentle, targeted impulses. Thompson Drop uses a segmented table that drops slightly on impact. Dr. Sorensen chooses the technique based on your condition, sensitivity, and anatomy — not habit.

What is spinal decompression and who is it for?

Spinal decompression is motorized traction that gently separates vertebrae to reduce pressure on compressed discs. It's most effective for disc herniations, bulges, and related nerve pain like sciatica. Sessions are comfortable — most patients relax and some fall asleep. It's not appropriate for every case; Dr. Sorensen will tell you whether it's right for yours.

How many visits will I need?

It depends entirely on what's wrong and how long it's been there. We don't sell prepaid packages. After your exam, you'll get a plan with a clear endpoint — and we'll revisit it as you progress. The goal is resolution, not maintenance.

Do I need a referral?

No. In California, chiropractors are primary-contact healthcare providers. Call us directly — no physician referral required. Workers' comp and auto-accident cases have their own intake process; call us and we'll walk you through it.

I've seen a chiropractor before and didn't like it. What's different here?

Tell us exactly what bothered you — the technique, the pressure, the pace, or something else. Dr. Sorensen has eight techniques available. If a high-velocity adjustment isn't right for you, there are gentler options that work well for the same conditions.

Does shockwave therapy hurt?

Radial shockwave creates a pressure sensation — some patients describe it as mild discomfort during treatment, followed by noticeable relief afterward. Intensity is adjusted to tolerance. It's most effective on stubborn chronic soft-tissue problems that haven't responded to other approaches.
